HGV Class 1 Driver
Job Information
We are looking for skilled and experienced HGV Class 1 Driver to join our team.
As a key member of our transport team, you will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of goods and materials over short and long distances. If you’re a dedicated professional with a strong work ethic, we’d love to hear from you!
Reporting to: Transport Department
Location: Ashford
Hours: As scheduled, typically around 48 hours a week (early starts)
Key Responsibilities
- Multi-drop driving to our retail and commercial customers delivering within mainland UK.
- Generally early starts.
- Careful unloading and handling on customer sites by forklift truck, and drive to a safe location at the nearest safe point at the delivery property.
- Deliveries may include FORS sites with specific procedures involved.
- Maintain the safety and security of your vehicle and load at all times.
- Using a forklift truck to load and unload customer orders. Securing returned product.
- Good and precise paperwork, especially on returned goods.
- Maintaining good tachograph skills.
- Maintain communication with the Transport Team to avoid potential issues.
Team targets:
- Complete the drops in a timely and safe manner each day.
- Keep in contact with the office to advise any problems or delays and expected return time.
Key Tasks
- Drive carefully and courteously and always behave professionally.
- Represent the Company well in front of our customers, with a professional appearance and polite and helpful attitude with customers and the general public is essential at all times.
- This role will require a very close and co-operative working relationship with the Transport Team.
- There is a wide range of products to learn and identify.
- Co-operate with the yard team when arriving back here on site.
- Work closely with your line Managers and the Quality Manager to ensure full compliance with the Company ISO9001 procedures and in raising overall quality standards. Ensure 100% quality to your customer. Do not let demands compromise quality.
- Work safely, to protect yourself and others, ensuring that Company and Statutory Health and Safety and Environmental requirements are met, including specific responsibilities relating to driving activities, including those laid out in the Company Driver’s Handbook.
- Take an active role in promoting safe working within this role.
- Participate in appropriate training and toolbox talks.
- Any other ad hoc tasks reasonably requested by your shift leader and direct line managers. Being part of the wider Yard team, this will certainly include work in other areas such as timber production, during quieter periods for Transport, to meet the company’s needs.

- Hourly paid, rate subject to experience and performance assessment
Own transport and UK driving licence is required as we are in a remote location.
HGV Class 1 Licence (required)
